Tonight Weird Paul and The Jealous Zealots are playing S.H.I.T. night (So Happy It's Thursday, for those of you aren't in the loop) and I, elena, am typing this blog because I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday and am not allowed to bartend. Tomorrow, though, I'll be back behind the bar as Downfall and Last Day Hustle bringing metal to our stage. Last week's shows were amazing (Friday was the debut show of The Awful Waffles, who were hysterical and will be back in August. Be there.), and we had great turnouts! It's always nice to have a full venue, to know people love the local music scene that we here at The Fallout Shelter perpetuate. Speaking of loving our scene, one of the best things to hear is that people who aren't from the area adore us. Not only did I make friends with a couple of kids who came back to Pittsburgh just to hear Dethlehem last Friday, but we recently got word that Aaron Omen, who played the Shelter a couple months ago when he was on tour, mentioned us (and our dear house punks Children of October) in an interview. He speaks highly of us, but don't take my word for it, go read the article yourself!! http://drcyclopsrecords.net/worldhorrornetwork/whn/?p=1576
P.S. Tripshod, who has played our venue many a time, is in search of a new singer. If you're interested, contact them at http://tripshod.com/ or http://www.myspace.com/tripshod

Zombie Prom was awesome!! I (elena) just put up a post about it on my own (photography) blog, and am too lazy to write a bunch of new stuff about it, so here's a link if you want to check out pictures from it. I also have some on our facebook page. http://elena-dee.blogspot.com/2010/05/zombie-prom.html http://www.facebook.com/thefalloutshelter

Thank you so much to everyone who came out on Friday to make our show featuring Doughnuts in November, A Vision Within, Mara, and Ascend the Fallen a success! It's great to see such support for local music even after our brief hiatus. The bands, of course, were awesome - it's always entertaining to have DiN in the house, and I loved Ascend the Fallen when I saw them last year so was pretty excited for this. A Vision Within and Mara were unfamiliar to me personally, but had GREAT sets! Everyone be sure to come out next Friday and Saturday - we have a bunch of stuff going on Friday, including an all ages set in the Lanes, and Saturday is Zombie Prom. - elena

elena here. I'm going to try to update this blog on occasion, so here I am apologizing for the fact that we haven't had any shows the past couple weeks. As many of you know, Randy, who books the shows here, has had some surgeries recently and we're wishing him the best of luck on tomorrow's. I personally have booked a show of my own - Zombie Prom!! We're very excited about this, and with 5 bands we're starting at 9pm on May 29th instead of our usual 10pm. We have our house punks Children of October, Ohio metal band Fullmoon Renegades, Pittsburgh's zombie surf rockers The Wakening, and coming with New Castle's Dead City Dealers are The Black Marias from England. Yes, England the country. The Fallout Shelter is now an international venue!!
FEAST FOR OUR FRIENDS IS COMING
Monday, November 23, 2009... 10:16PM
The Fallout Shelter had a great weekend... Friday Steve Vesolich and After Forever provided magnificent acoustic music... Saturday, RYBO 3 had 400+ people dancing all over the building. It was a great party... Sunday, Juicy Girls followed their muse with an inventive industrial- ambient blend, DangerKat rocked us with some great punked-inflected power pop, and we started Nick's birthday off in style!
This week should be just as interesting.
Wednesday, come share a FEAST FOR OUR FRIENDS, with music from The Dregs and Wings for Armor, and a free Midnight Thanksgiving dinner for everyone in the house. Come and share the love and blessing of our community.
Friday, we celebrate Boo's 31st Birthday in the usual grandy style! DJ Other Guy (Boo himself) will be spinning. It's always a laid-back mellow crowd. Come down and buy Boo a drink!
Saturday, The Weird Paul Rock Band brings its madcap musical presence to The Fallout Shelter. It will be Brian Colleran's (bass) last show here with the band before he move to DC. We miss him already. Joining Paul's crew will be O. C. Thief and Eric & the Electric MP3 Player.
Come and see what we're all about. We'd love to have you as a part of our community of music, laughter, and love.
Remember, you can see bands anywhere, but The Fallout Shelter puts you INTO THE MUSIC!
In our never-ending quest to become the home of the local music community we've decided to throw caution to the wind and open daily. We'll open the doors at 6 PM every day of the week. We'll keep doing our regular Friday and Saturday shows, and start adding shows and other events until we're bringing you live entertainment every night of the week! Check the website and our Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace pages regularly. We'll be doing lots of impromptu performances on week nights. We'll post performance info as soon as we have it, sometimes only days or hours before it happens. BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR EMAIL LIST. We'll send regular bulletins to keep in the know about The Fallout Shelter events and community. Remember, you can see bands anywhere, but The Fallout Shelter puts you INTO THE MUSIC!!!
